Cycling See also Biking The city of Glendale has more than 100 miles of bike routes, paths and trails. Below are a few favorite areas well-suited for cycling. Map of Glendale Bike Routes Grand Canal Linear Park — Glendale’s newest linear park runs diagonally from 75th Avenue and Camelback Road to 97th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. This park, which is also a great place to teach kids how to ride a bike, features a lighted 3.25-mile lighted paved pathway located away from an unpaved equestrian trail. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sahuaro Ranch Park — Although there are no bicycling paths at Sahuaro Ranch Park, it's a great place to ride a bike to and visit as the park offers an incredible recreational and historic experience. This regional park features top-notch recreational amenities, such as picnic areas, covered ramadas, playground, dog park, sand volleyball courts and a lighted softball complex. On the eastern side of the property, the park features a turn-of-the-century homestead dating back to the city's early agricultural beginnings. Historic Sahuaro Ranch offers visitors an opportunity to step back in time as they stroll through this unique b ranch museum. For more information and a schedule of upcoming events at Historic Sahuaro Ranch, call 623-930-4200. The park is located at 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road (south of Peoria Road). Skunk Creek Linear Park — This linear park’s 3.5- mile paved pathway, which runs from 51st Avenue and Utopia Road to 73rd Avenue and Paradise Lane, connects to Thunderbird Paseo Park. The scenic desert trail runs along Skunk Creek, so be on the lookout for birds and critters during your ride. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Thunderbird Park — Bicyclists can take advantage of more than 20 miles of single-track trails in this 1,185-acre desert mountainous park. In addition to mountain biking, the park is a favorite destination for hiking, jogging, horseback riding and bird watching. Please respect the natural beauty of this conservation park by staying on the trails at all times. The main entrance of the park, open daily from sunrise to sunset, is on 59th Avenue between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads. Thunderbird Paseo Park — This linear park along the Arizona Canal is a bicyclist’s paradise, featuring nearly four miles of paved path away from traffic. The park is also a great place to teach children how to ride a bike. The park runs diagonally from 51st and Cactus Road to 73rd Avenue and Greenway Road. The best access points are 67th Avenue just south of Greenway Road or 59th Avenue just south of Thunderbird Road. The park, which is open daily from sunrise to sunset, also features soccer fields, basketball courts and playgrounds. The Thunderbird Paseo path becomes the AC/DC path in Phoenix and continues all the way to 24th Street (a total distance of 16 miles).
